In 1863, four years after Jane and William Morris visited Belgium, Dante Gabriel Rosetti visited Belgium with his brother, William Rossetti. Like Jane and William Morris, the Rossetti brothers visited Bruges, Ghent and Antwerp.
Like the Morris’s the Rossetti’s would have been most interested to visit St Bavo’s Cathedral in Gent which is a wonderful example of northern European Gothic architecture. The cathedral contains many medieval treasures, such as The Adoration of the Mystic Lamb altarpiece by the Van Eyck brothers, painted in 1432.
