Standen is the most beautiful Arts and Crafts house, built in 1892 – 4.
I have enjoyed visiting Standen many times, this beautiful arts and crafts house was a beautiful home built for the London solicitor James Beale and his family. Beale chose the architect Philip Webb to build Standen.
There were existing houses on the site which Philip Webb carefully preserved.
The tile fronted Hollybush Farm dates from around 1450.
The back of the house looks out over the beautiful gardens
My favourite place in the house has to be this lovely bench seat tucked away in the far left of the picture, next to the conservatory.
The house is a must see not only for the beauty of the house but also for the Arts and Crafts treasures it contains.
There are beautiful William Morris fabrics and wallpapers in most rooms, I just love it!
