15th March 2013
Last night I watched the BBC4 program about the Pre–Raphaelites.
It concentrated on the Pre–Raphaelite painters, John Everett Millais, William Holman Hunt and Dante Gabriel Rossetti and how they transformed landscape painting. It also considered the involvement of John Ruskin in the Pre Raphaelite brotherhood.
It was so interesting to learn how they worked and I was particularly interested to see how John Everett Millais painted Ophelia, one of my favourite Pre-Raphaelite paintings. I especially like the way Millais painted the wild flowers, this new emphasis on the observation of wild flowers is characteristic of William Morris designs. As here in his design Lily.
The program is available to watch on BBC iplayer until Thursday March 21st at 8.29pm
