Arthur Boyd Houghton (1836-1875 was a successful painter and illustrator during the Victorian Era. Houghton worked in oils, watercolours and he was an important illustrator and wood engraver. Houghton worked with the Dalziel Brothers and he was heavily influenced by the work of the PreRaphaelites.
Houghton illustrating a huge number of publications in magazines and books, including The Arabian Nights and Don Quixote and was highly regarded by the public and other artists in his lifetime. This is Sancho and His Dapple, from Don Quixote, (1866).
