The Arts and Crafts style of Cragside is just wonderful.
The dining room has the most beautiful inglenook fireplace.
The four small stained glass windows in the inglenook fireplace were designed by William Morris and made in 1873.
Each of the women represent one of the seasons
Lord Armstrong had his portrait painted by Henry Emmerson in 1880 sat in the inglenook fireplace with the beautiful spring and summer windows in the background, with his dogs at his feet.
Norman Shaw wanted to introduce fine craftsmen to Cragside, Lord Armstrong had already used original William Morris wallpapers in the original house at Cragside so was happy to include William Morris designs and other stained glass designed by William Morris’s friends from the Pre – Raphaelite brotherhood, including Ford Maddox Brown, Dante Gabriel Rossetti, Edward Burne – Jones and Philip Webb.
